Birth Certificate Application database (BCA)

Last updated : April 2025

Overview

Birth registration is mandatory in Taiwan within seven days of delivery and records all live births and stillbirths that exceed a gestational age of 20 weeks or a birth weight of more than 500 grams. The Birth Certificate Application database captures a wide range of data for each pregnancy, including birth information (e.g., singleton or multiple pregnancy, type of delivery, birth date, gestational age), maternal demographics (e.g., high-risk health behaviors), maternal outcomes (e.g., gestational diabetes mellitus, complications during delivery), and fetal outcomes (e.g., birth weight, congenital anomalies). It also includes the mother's ID, enabling linkage to other databases to retrieve the patient's healthcare information.
